How to make notes other students actually want to read

Clear structure, honest headings and one idea per page. A practical guide to uploading notes that get read, saved and shared.

The best notes on Snapnotes aren't the longest or the prettiest. They're the ones another student can open the night before an exam and understand straight away. Here's what they have in common.

1. Follow the syllabus

Name and order your notes the way your university's syllabus does — subject, then unit, then topic. Students search by unit, so a note titled "Unit 3: Thermodynamics — First Law" gets found; a note titled "phy notes final final" doesn't.

2. One idea per page

Give every major idea its own page or section with a clear heading. It makes your notes easier to skim, and it helps our AI tools build better flashcards and mind maps from them.

3. Show the working

For numericals and derivations, write every step. The step you skipped because it felt obvious is usually the one a reader gets stuck on.

4. Scan it properly

  • Shoot in daylight, flat on a table, with the whole page in frame.
  • Use a scanner app to fix the angle and boost contrast.
  • Combine pages into one PDF in the right order before uploading.
